Staff Spotlight: Nicolaas Burger
Nicolaas Burger has an adventurous spirit. If he weren’t already busy with his job as Director of Hotel Operations for Alaskan Dream Cruises, he’d likely be sailing around the world! Since he can’t do that right now, his closer-to-home adventures include hiking, biking and home remodeling. Here’s a chance to get to know Nick a little better.
Q: What is your hometown and where do you live now?
Nick: I originally come from Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Now we live in Deer Park, WA in the winter, and in the summer we reside in Sitka, AK.
Q: How long have you been with Alaskan Dream Cruises?
Nick: Since September 2017.
Q: What is your favorite thing about this job?
Nick: Being able to share my extensive knowledge in an amazing family environment where everyone shares the same vision of True Alaskan Hospitality; focusing on improved guest experiences, standardizing operations across the fleet; and streamlining the on-board food and beverage experience by creating a fun Alaskan, sustainable food concept.
Q: What is a surprising thing that others may not know about your job?
Nick: Being able to work remotely from home in the winter.
Q: What are three words you’d use to describe an ADC cruise?
Nick: In words attributed to Mark Twain: “Explore, Dream, Discover.”
Q: If you weren’t working here, you’d…
Nick: I would be an adventurer and sail around the world.
Q: When you’re not at work, what do you like to do?
Nick: Biking, hiking and home remodeling.

Nick: Favorite movie: Ben Hur (Original Charlton Heston version)
Favorite book: Hollands Glorie, a Dutch novel about ocean towing in the early 20th Century

Nick: I am a member of the Board of the Marine Hotel Association, a non-profit by and for the Cruise Industry.
