Tucked away on secluded Colt Island, just a short distance from Juneau, the day-lodge’s magnificent scenic views of Stephens Passage and Admiralty Island National Monument will take your breath away. The monument, located in the Tongass National Forest, is also known by the Tlingit name Kootznoowoo, which means Fortress of the Bear – a fitting name, since the island has the highest concentration of brown bears in North America.

This picturesque area is also rife with whales, salmon, eagles and more, so we have binoculars and spotting scopes at the ready for viewing and exploring. Travelers also love the marine-life touch tank filled with a wide array of intertidal zone sea creatures.

There are opportunities to stroll along the shore, or even on a sandbar, to browse in the Orca Point Gift Shop for local art, salmon delicacies, and other local items, and to experience an exciting cultural program where you’ll learn more about Alaska’s Native Tlingit tribe.
